Brownfields

The DNREC Brownfields Development Program encourages the cleanup and redevelopment, reuse or expansion of properties which may be perceived to be environmentally contaminated. Mark your calendars: The Delaware Brownfield Conference is set for Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, starting at 9 a.m., at the Chase Center, in Wilmington.


The Remediation Section

The DNREC Remediation Section protects public health, welfare, and the environment in Delaware by identifying and cleaning up releases of hazardous waste, petroleum and other hazardous substances in the environment to an acceptable level of human-health and environmental risk, and supporting the continued safe use, re-use or enhanced productive use of remediated properties.


Notification of Public Comment for a Brownfield Development Agreement for the Claymont Cleaners/Joe & Tony’s Service Site, (DE-1703)

DNREC’s Remediation Section has negotiated a Brownfield Development Agreement with NelRay II LLC regarding the Claymont Cleaners/Joe & Tony’s Service Site, located at 3203 and 3207 Philadelphia Pike and 4 Commonwealth Avenue in Claymont, Delaware.


Proposed Plan of Remedial Action for the John’s Body Shop Site

The Department invites public comment on a proposal to clean up the John’s Body Shop Site located in Wilmington. The Site was historically operated as an automobile repair and paint shop.
