The Ommelanden Hunter Education Training Center is one of two state shooting ranges managed by the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife. It offers trap and skeet shooting, rifle and pistol shooting, archery and more.

The Ommelanden Training Center is open on a first-come, first-served basis on all ranges. Appointments are not required.

Customers who require an Ommelanden safety card should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their range time.
All Training Center users aged 10 and older must complete a basic safety program, including a short video and a quiz focused on firearm safety and the rules of the range. The safety program is offered every day the range is open, from noon until 3 p.m.
You may choose to watch the safety video ahead of your visit, then download and complete the Safety Quiz and bring it it to be checked by a safety officer.
Users are expected to adhere to gun safety rules and follow the instructions of the range officer.
Users are responsible for understanding all safety features and functions of their firearms. Operational and safety manufacturer’s instructions, especially those for newly acquired firearms, should be studied prior to bringing a firearm to the range.
The legal age to shoot at the facility unaccompanied is 18 years of age. Anyone aged 17 or younger must be accompanied by an adult.
No one under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be permitted to shoot.
Privileges to access and use the range may be revoked for any customer who fails to follow range safety protocols.

All rifles, pistols and shotguns (slugs only) and black powder rifles are permitted.
Prohibited Ammunition: Steel Core Bullets, Steel-Jacketed Bullets, Tracer Ammunition, Armor Piercing Bullets, Tungsten Core Bullets, Loads Exceeding 3,500 ft./lbs. Muzzle Energy

Practice/Sight-in Range: $3 per 1/2 day (Targets at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 yards)
Shotgun pellets of all sizes (no slugs or buckshot) can be shot at the outdoor patterning board at no charge with a limit if six shells.
There are a few things you should know when you visit the Ommelanden Hunter Education Training Center. And there are few things you need to bring with you.
Bring a valid ID for all participants and a valid ticket. If you plan to use the rifle/pistol range, bring some kind of tape or staple to attach your targets to the target retrieval system.
The Training Center does not rent or sell firearms or ammunition.
The range lengths are 25 yards for the pistol range and 50 yards for the rifle range.
Eating and drinking are prohibited inside the range. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property.
