The Council, established by the Delaware General Assembly in 1978 (7 Del. Code § 7305), recommends criteria for acquisition and dedication of Nature Preserves and for the addition of Natural Areas to the State Registry of Natural Areas. It advises the Secretary on policies, rules and regulations governing the management, protection and use of Nature Preserves.

Meetings of the Natural Areas Advisory Council are posted on the DNREC Calendar of Events and on the Delaware Public Meeting Calendar.
