The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Division of Watershed Stewardship’s (DWS) Watershed Assessment & Management Section (WAMS) and Watershed Approach to Toxics Assessment and Restoration (WATAR) program is issuing this public notice on its development of a comprehensive plan to address toxic contaminant impairments in the C&D Canal watershed.
Per Delaware’s Integrated Report, the C&D Canal is impaired by dieldrin, dioxins/furans and PCBs. The Advance Restoration Plan (ARP) was developed as a mechanism to evaluate, reduce/eliminate, and monitor toxic contaminant concentrations in the watershed over time in compliance with Federal Clean Water Act requirements, and prior to/in lieu of developing and implementing a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL).
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Water accepted the ARP on September 4, 2024.
The ARP for the C&D Canal Watershed, along with Delaware’s Integrated Reports, can be found online at: dnrec.delaware.gov/watershed-stewardship/assessment/tmdls/
