Project Description: The Mayor & Council of Middletown have submitted an application to RENEW the Town’s Operating Permit for the Town of Middletown Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Plant includes a new advanced On-Site Wastewater Treatment and Disposal System designed to produce enhanced treatment and water quality for the protection of public health and the environment. The system is designed to treat 3.75 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater generated within the Town’s service territories. The system consists of a sequencing batch reactor treatment system, 1 aerated lagoon, 2 storage lagoons, 2 digester tanks, 1 post equalization tank and additional advanced treatment tanks. The system discharges up to 1.36 MGD onto agricultural fields, parkland, and a golf course via spray irrigation, and 829,167 gallons per day to Rapid Infiltration Basins.

A public hearing on the above applications will NOT be held unless the Secretary of DNREC determines that a public hearing is in the public interest or if a written meritorious objection to the application is received within 15 days from this notice. A public hearing request shall be deemed meritorious if it exhibits a familiarity with the application and provides a reasoned statement of the action’s probable impact.
