Pursuant to 7 Del. C., Section 6004, notice is hereby given by the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s (DNREC) Division of Waste and Hazardous Substances (DWHS), Compliance and Permitting Section (CAPS) that the Delaware Solid Waste Authority’s (DSWA) Solid Waste Permit (SW-00/01) for the Southern Solid Waste Management Center (SSWMC) at 28560 Landfill Lane, Georgetown, DE 19947 is being renewed by the CAPS. This renewal includes the expansion of the landfill footprint.

The DSWA’s permit renewal and landfill expansion application is for the continued operation of Cells 1 through 5 and the construction of Cell 6 at the SSWMC. This permit incorporates operational and environmental monitoring requirements for the entire SSWMC. Additional environmental monitoring requirements associated with Cell 6 will be incorporated into the permit prior to the placement of waste within Cell 6.

The application and draft permit for this permit renewal and expansion may be reviewed upon request. The application and draft permit are posted at: de.gov/dnrecnotices.

A public hearing (on the above) will NOT be held unless the Secretary of DNREC receives a request within 15 days from this notice, ending at 4:30 p.m. on September 23, 2025 September 26, 2025. (see Note) A request for a hearing shall be in writing and shall state the nature of the issues to be raised at the hearing. It must also show a familiarity with the permit application and a reasoned statement of the activity’s probable impact.

Note: Due to an error, this notice did not publish in one of the two statewide newspapers in Delaware until Spt. 10, 2025. Therefore, the public comment period for this notice has been extended to Sept. 26, 2025, to give a full 15 days for comment from the date of the latest publication of the notice.
