The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Remediation Section (RS) has adopted a plan regarding the clean-up of Operable Unit-3 (OU-3) of the Chrysler Newark Assembly Plant Site (DE-0105) (site) located in Newark. The Site has had various uses including agriculture, rail yard, powerhouse, tank farm, military tank assembly, testing and vehicle assembly prior to its 2008 redevelopment as the University of Delaware’s Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus. To prevent exposure to contaminated soils and groundwater in OU-3, there will be a restriction on the withdrawal of groundwater at the Site, long-term monitoring and management of site soils and groundwater in accordance with a DNREC-approved plan and the installation of a vapor mitigation system beneath new buildings constructed in certain areas of the OU.

DNREC issued a public notice of the Second Amended Proposed Plan of Remedial Action (Proposed Plan) for the Chrysler Newark Assembly Plant Site on February 25, 2026. There were no comments or questions from the public regarding the Second Amended Proposed Plan.
