The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Remediation Section (RS) has adopted an amended plan regarding the clean-up of the Borden Chemical Co Smyrna Site (DE-0022) (Site) located in Clayton. The December 2024 Final Plan of Remedial Action (Final Plan) is being amended based on additional investigation that indicated that site soil does not present a potential human health risk. Therefore, the Site will not be restricted to non-residential uses. The Final Plan is being amended to remove the use restriction. The Site is approximately 5.81 acres and is developed with a 1,376 square feet single vacant warehouse building on the southwest corner. The remainder of the Site consists of various concrete building foundations, a former in-ground truck scale, and grassy/wooded land. The Site historically operated as an agricultural chemical supplier.
DNREC issued a public notice of the Amended Proposed Plan of Remedial Action (Proposed Plan) for the Borden Chemical Co Smyrna Site on September 18, 2025. There were no comments or questions from the public regarding the Amended Proposed Plan.
Details of the Amended Final Plan are available online at: den.dnrec.delaware.gov
