The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Remediation Section (RS) invites public comment on a proposal to clean-up the Foundry at Riverview Site (DE-1737) (Site) located at 625 West Seventh Street in New Castle. The Site was previously part of the Seeds of Greatness Church Brownfield Site (DE-1474) and was operated as a foundry. The site is adjacent to Abex Corporation Foundry Landfill (DE-0065). The Site soil is a risk to residential use due to concentrations of arsenic and benzo[a]pyrene. Groundwater is impacted by elevated concentrations of arsenic and manganese.
The Foundry at Riverview Site will be subject to the following key remedial actions: installation of a protective cap, development and compliance with the Contaminated Materials Management Plan (CMMP), development and compliance with a Long- Term Stewardship (LTS) plan, and the recording of an Environmental Covenant restricting groundwater withdrawal and compliance with the CMMP and LTS plan.
Details of the Proposed Plan of Remedial Action (Proposed Plan) are available online at den.dnrec.delaware.gov.
