The Department invites public comment on a proposal to clean-up the Borden Chemical Co Smyrna Site (DE-0022) located at 4474 Wheatley’s Pond Road in Clayton. The Site is approximately 5.81 acres and is developed with a 1,376 square feet single vacant warehouse building on the southwest corner. The remainder of the Site consists of various concrete building foundations, a former in-ground truck scale, and grassy/wooded land. The Site historically operated as an agricultural chemical supplier.
Borden Chemical Co Smyrna Site will be subject to the following key remedial actions: submittal of a Long-Term Stewardship (LTS) Work Plan which specifies the groundwater monitoring requirements and schedule to be followed in order to monitor the groundwater contaminants; recording of an Environmental Covenant restricting the use of the property to non-residential, restricting the groundwater withdrawal and compliance with the LTS Plan.
Details of the Proposed Plan are available online at: den.dnrec.delaware.gov.
The comment period ends at close of business (4:30PM) on December 3, 2024. For additional information, please contact Mariya Chiger Project Manager at (302) 395-2600 or via email at RS_Public_Comments@delaware.gov.
