The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has adopted a plan regarding the clean-up the SW College/The Grove Site (DE-1813) located at 121 College Square, Newark, DE. The Site is an approximately 2.93-acre property consisting of a portion of New Castle County tax parcel 1802100172. There are two Operable Units (OUs) for the Site. OU-1 consists of a former Pep Boys store and surrounding parking areas, while OU-2 consists of adjacent store units with the focus being the former K&L Cleaners 2 storefronts down to the east along with its rear parking and a small portion of parking in front.
The Site will be subject to the following key remedial action: recording of an Environmental Covenant that restricts groundwater withdrawal.
DNREC issued public notice of the Proposed Plan of Remedial Action for the Site on August 11th, 2024 and opened a 20-day public comment period, which ended on September 3rd, 2024. There were no comments from the public; therefore, the Proposed Plan is adopted as the Final Plan. Details of the Final Plan are available online at: den.dnrec.delaware.gov.
