The Department invites public comment on a proposal to address contamination on Operable Unit 2 of the Former New Arc Welding Site (DE-1345) (“Site”) located at 30 Commerce Street in Wilmington. OU-2 represents an approximate 2.90-acre portion of the entire Site.
Since the late 1800s, the Site was utilized for many industrial operations, including oil refining, car manufacturing, paper and twine manufacturing, also as a motorcycle shop, and more recently, metal welding, fabricating, and coating. Currently, OU-2 of the Site is occupied by a company conducting commercial painting and sandblasting operations.
OU-2 of the Site will be subject to the following key remedial action: recording of an Environmental Covenant that restricts groundwater withdrawal, restricts property use to non-residential, and restricts any recreational use of the property.
Details of the Proposed Plan are available online at: den.dnrec.delaware.gov
The comment period ends at close of business (4:30PM) on October 14, 2024. For additional information, please contact Lindsay Hall, Project Manager, at (302) 395-2600 or via email at RS_Public_Comments@delaware.gov.
