The Department has adopted a plan regarding the clean-up of the SSC Laurel Agronomy Site located in Laurel. The Site has been used since approximately the 1930s first as a fertilizer and feed warehousing and package company, and most recently, as a retail agronomy business where dry and liquid fertilizers were stored and sold.
The Site will be subject to the following key remedial actions: excavation of two soil “hot spot” areas, removal of an aboveground storage tank (AST) and a possible underground storage tank (UST), development of and compliance with a Contaminated Materials Management Plan (CMMP), and the recording of an Environmental Covenant that restricts groundwater withdrawal from beneath the Site, and requires compliance with the CMMP to prevent exposure to groundwater by future Site users.
DNREC issued a public notice of the Proposed Plan for the SSC Laurel Agronomy Site on May 21, 2023. There were no comments or questions from the public regarding the Proposed Plan. Details of the Final Plan are available online at: den.dnrec.delaware.gov
