Final Plan of Remedial Action for 609 Philadelphia Pike Site (DE-1795)

Division of Waste and Hazardous Substances

Published: May 31, 2023

The Department has adopted a plan regarding the clean-up of the 609 Philadelphia Pike Site (Site) (DE-1795) located at 609 Philadelphia Pike in Wilmington. From the early 1960s until the mid-1980s, the Site was a gasoline and service station with underground storage tanks and fuel dispensers. Historic Site operations likely resulted in petroleum releases which have impacted the groundwater. The commercial building, attached additions, and single detached garage were demolished in September 2022.

The Site will be subject to the following remedial actions including removal or closure of underground storage tanks and any identified hydraulic lifts; disposal of petroleum impacted soils; compliance with a Contaminated Materials Management Plan (CMMP); and recording of an Environmental Covenant restricting well installation and groundwater withdrawal.

DNREC issued a public notice of the Proposed Plan for the 609 Philadelphia Pike Site on April 30, 2023. There were no comments or questions from the public regarding the Proposed Plan. Details of the Final Plan are available online at: den.dnrec.delaware.gov
