Application

Notice has been given that:

Melson Funeral Services requests a permit to construct one (1) natural gas-fired Matthews Environmental Solutions Power Pak II Plus (IE43-PPII Plus) Crematory Incinerator at their 41 Thatcher Street facility in Frankford, Sussex County. The crematory incinerator will be permitted to emit up to 0.210 tons per year (TPY) of particulate matter, 0.009 TPY of carbon monoxide, 1.851 TPY of nitrogen oxides, 0.007 TPY of volatile organic compounds, and 0.288 TPY of sulfur oxides by Permit: APC-2025/0006-Construction. The Department estimated and modeled the emission rates of these pollutants, various trace heavy metals, and hazardous air pollutants emitted from the operation of the proposed equipment and determined that the pollutants do not pose a threat to the health and safety of the general public.

The application for this permit may be reviewed upon request. The application is posted at de.gov/dnrecnotices. A public hearing on any of the above applications will NOT be held unless the Secretary of DNREC receives a request for a hearing regarding that application within 15 days from the date of this notice, ending September 16, 2024. A request for a hearing shall be in writing. The request must also show a familiarity with the application and a reasoned statement of the permit’s probable impact.
