The Department has adopted an amended plan regarding the clean-up of Operable Unit 4 of the Chrysler Newark Assembly Plant Site located in Newark. Unit 4 (OU-4) of the Chrysler Newark Assembly Plant Site (DE-0105) located in Newark. The approximately 272-acre Site was the former location of a vehicle assembly plant and is currently the location of the University of Delaware’s Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus. This Amended Final Plan of Remedial Action specifically addresses a 24.6-acre portion of the Site referred to as OU-4. OU-4 was divided into two sections, OU-4A and OU-4B, in consideration of development plans.
OU-4A is not subject to any remedial actions for soil. In addition to remedial actions previously implemented in accordance with the original Final Plan of Remedial Action, additional requirements for OU-4B of the Site include maintenance of capping atop soils within two areas of concern, restriction to non-residential use, and continued compliance with the site-specific Contaminated Materials Management Plan and Long-Term Stewardship Plan, which includes groundwater monitoring. All of OU-4 is subject to a restriction on groundwater use.
