The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Remediation Section (RS) invites public comment on a proposal to clean up 436 S. Buttonwood Street (DE-1847) (Site) located at 410-422 & 436 S. Buttonwood Street in Wilmington, Delaware. The approximately 0.37-acre Site is located South of the Christina River in Wilmington, Delaware. The site is currently vacant with one two-story building previously used as the automotive repair shop. The Christiana River is located to the North, commercial properties to the Northwest while residential properties are Southeast/east to the property and the South Wilmington Wetlands are West of the Site.
The Site will be subject to the following key remedial actions: the submittal of a Remedial Action Work Plan which specifies the methods to be used to remediate the site including the removal/disposal and stabilization of soils to meet DNREC Hazardous Substance Cleanup Act (HSCA) standards, implementation of a cap, development and compliance with the Contaminated Materials Management Plan (CMMP) and a Long-Term Stewardship (LTS) Plan, the recording of an Environmental Covenant limiting interference with remedy; groundwater withdrawal; and compliance with the CMMP and LTS Plan; and the submittal of a Remedial Action Completion Report.
