A Federal Consistency Determination has been submitted to the DNREC Coastal Management Program (DCMP) for the following: USFWS Prime Hook NWR Lead Shot Site Removal (2026.0014)
The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) proposes to implement a Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) removal action in the lead shot site at the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge (Prime Hook NWR) in Milton, Sussex County, Delaware. The site is approximately 5.5 acres of upland forest and forested wetland, connected to the Prime Hook Creek within the Broadkill River watershed. The project would include limited clearing of the site for access and operations, excavation and in-situ treatment of lead-impacted soil/sediment, offsite disposal of treated material, backfilling with clean material, and the seeding of native species to restore vegetative cover and habitat. The proposed activity is subject to review for consistency under the policies of the DNREC DCMP.
Comments concerning this Federal Consistency Determination will be accepted from April 17, 2026, through May 7, 2026. Comments may be sent to: DNREC Coastal Programs, Jesse Hayden, Administrator, 100 W. Water Street, Suite 7B, Dover, DE, 19904, or electronically to DNREC_DCP_PublicComment@delaware.gov.
