The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Remediation Section (RS) invites public comment on a proposal to clean up the 522 S. Market Street Site (DE-1723) (Site) located at 522 S. Market Street in Wilmington. Prior to the 1940s, the Site was undeveloped. The Site historically was part of a larger automobile salvage yard in the 1940s and 1950s. Between the 1970s and 1990s, the Site operated as a restaurant. In the 1990s, the Site was utilized for automobile repair, storage, and sales. Currently, the Site is an empty lot.

522 S. Market Street will be subject to the following key remedial actions: the submittal of a Remedial Action Work Plan which specifies the methods to be used to remediate the site including the removal and disposal of impacted soils to meet DNREC Hazardous Substance Cleanup Act (HSCA) standards, development and compliance with a Long-Term Stewardship (LTS) Plan detailing groundwater monitoring requirements, development and compliance with the Contaminated Materials Management Plan (CMMP), the recording of an Environmental Covenant restricting groundwater withdrawal and requiring compliance with the CMMP and LTS plan, and the submittal of a Remedial Action Completion Report.

Details of the Proposed Plan of Remedial Action (Proposed Plan) are available online at den.dnrec.delaware.gov.
