The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Remediation Section (RS) invites public comment on a proposal to clean-up Operable Unit 1 (OU-1) of the Former New Arc Welding Site (DE-1345) (Site) located at 22 Commerce Street in Wilmington. The OU-1 Site represents an approximate 26.41-acre portion of the entire Site.
Since the late 1800s, the Site was utilized for many industrial operations, including oil refining, car manufacturing, paper and twine manufacturing, also as a motorcycle shop, and more recently, metal welding, fabricating, and coating. Currently, OU-1 of the Site is utilized for trailer storage.
OU-1 of the Site will be subject to the following key remedial actions: recording of an environmental covenant that restricts digging and groundwater withdrawal from the property and restricts property use to non-residential.
Details of the Proposed Plan of Remedial Action (Proposed Plan) are available online at den.dnrec.delaware.gov.
