The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Surface Water Discharges Section (DNREC-SWDS) will conduct a virtual public information meeting on Synagro’s Technologies, Inc. (Synagro) permit application for a distribution and marketing permit for heat dried Class A/Exceptional Quality (EQ) biosolids product. Heat dried biosolids distributed by Synagro into Delaware would be generated from 3 wastewater treatment plants located in Philadelphia, PA knows as the Southwest Water Pullulation Control Plant, the Southeast Water Pollution Control Plant, and the Northeast Water Pollution Control Plant. Biosolids generated at the 3 aforementioned wastewater treatment plants is transported to Philadelphia Renewable Bio-fuels – LLC. (PRB) Wastewater Treatment Plant in Philadelphia, PA where it is processed to meet Class A/EQ standards. Upon permit issuance, the distribution and marketing permit would allow Synagro’s Class A/EQ biosolids to be utilized within the State of Delaware on agricultural land, in fertilizers, or other uses as approved by DNREC.
The purpose of the virtual public meeting is to provide the public with an opportunity to better understand and ask questions related to the applicant’s permit application. The virtual public meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, beginning at 6:00 PM.
