The Department has adopted a plan regarding the clean-up of the General Motors Corp. Wilmington Assembly Plant Operable Unit 5 (OU-5) Site located in Wilmington. DNREC held a Public Hearing on March 13, 2019 to hear comments on the Proposed Plan of Remedial Action (Proposed Plan). The Secretary’s Order upholding the Proposed Plan was issued on August 9, 2019. The Site, once used by GM as a test track, required excavating and disposing of the soil from three (3) areas and capping the larger area; restricting groundwater use at the Site. An Environmental Covenant restricting the Site to non-residential use only; developing and following a Long-Term Stewardship Plan; and developing and implementing a Contaminated Materials Management Plan.
