Synagro Technologies Inc. has applied to the Surface Water Discharges Section for a permit for the distribution and marketing of Class A/Exceptional Quality biosolids fertilizer products throughout the State of Delaware.
Synagro’s permit application proposes distributing and marketing “Class A” “Exceptional Quality” biosolids, generated in the City of Philadelphia Wastewater Treatment Plants, in the State of Delaware. To achieve the Class A/EQ biosolids designation, the biosolids are required to be heated to at least 80â—‹ C (176â—‹ F) and the moisture content be raised to at least 90% solids. Additionally, it is required that the finished product be sampled for specific bacteria and chemical parameters to demonstrate that State and Federal requirements are met. Treatment renders the biosolids suitable for use as a fertilizer.
