Funding Opportunities for Tree Plantings

Funding for tree-plantings is available from a variety of sources for private residences and landowners, communities and homeowners associations, non-governmental organizations, parks, schools, municipalities, counties and state agencies.

Private Residences and Landowners


Clean Water Act 319 Grants from the DNREC Division of Watershed Stewardship, Nonpoint Source Section. Projects vary in size and must have approved watershed implementation plan. Project grants to individuals are limited to demonstration projects.

Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) from the DNREC Division of Watershed Stewardship, Nonpoint Source Section. Available in the Chesapeake Bay, Delaware Bay, and Inland Bay Watersheds. Projects vary in size. There is a 10- to 15-year contract length.

The Buffer Incentive Program is an incentive program from the DNREC Division of Watershed Stewardship. Urban and Rural Landowners in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed would be eligible. Landowners must agree to a five year contract. Land must be connected to, or next to, a waterbody.

The Delaware Community Conservation Assistance Program (DeCAP) is a cost share program from the DNREC Division of Watershed Stewardship. Projects must be in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Landowners must agree to a five year contract. Funding is available for tree plantings, rain gardens, bioretention and conservation landscaping.

Communities and Homeowner Associations


Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Grants from the Delaware Department of Agriculture, Delaware Forest Service. A $5,000, annual, competitive grant program.

Community Water Quality Improvement Grants from the DNREC Division of Watershed Stewardship, Nonpoint Source Section. Grants of $25,000 to $75,000 per project. Projects must support surface water and ground water quality.

Chesapeake Bay Implementation Grants from the DNREC Division of Watershed Stewardship, Nonpoint Source Section. Projects vary in size. Grants available only for projects in the Chesapeake Bay basin.

Chesapeake Bay Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Towns from the US Environmental Protection Agency, Region 3. Up to $150,000 for planning, design, and development.
