Orientation meeting of the regulatory advisory committee formed by the recently passed Wetlands Stewardship Act.
The Wetlands Stewardship Act, signed by Governor Matt Meyer on July 21, 2026, establishes Delaware’s first comprehensive state program to protect freshwater wetlands and sets up a regulatory advisory committee to guide implementation. The bipartisan legislation was developed to fill regulatory gaps created by a 2023 U.S. Supreme Court decision that narrowed the scope of federal wetlands protections.
The meeting will serve to orient the committee to the scope of topics and decisions it needs to address to meet an Aug. 1, 2027 deadline to submit draft regulations to the Secretary of DNREC.
The group will establish a shared understanding of the legislative basis for its actions, establish an operational approach, including discussing a work plan and opersating procedures and will elect co-chairs.
