Come get a tree that you can plant as part of the Tree for Every Delawarean Initiative (TEDI).
The Sussex Conservation District (SCD) will distribute more than 700 native trees, on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limit of one tree per person.
Each tree will include a tag with a QR code that links to the TEDI Tracker which recipients can use to register their tree as part of a database of tree plantings across the state. So far, more than 240,000 tree plantings have been documented through this initiative.
Six tree species will be available, including American sycamore, red maple, river birch, sweetbay magnolia, tulip poplar and willow oak. Find information on selecting, planting and caring for their trees on the TEDI web page at de.gov/tedi.
The Tree for Every Delawarean Initiative is a collaborative effort involving DNREC, the Delaware Forest Service and other key stakeholders.
Trees will be available between 10 a.m and 2 p.m., or until the trees are gone.
