Explore patriotic traditions at the First Saturday in the First State at the First State Heritage

The July edition of First Saturday will feature a variety of free events and activities focused on patriotism and American history.

Programs include “Fighting for Freedom Beyond the Revolution,” at the John Bell House, which will explore what freedom meant for African-Americans and how they fought for freedom during the American Civil War. There will be a celebration of patriotic music at the Johnson Victrola Museum, featuring original patriotic music recorded by the Victor Record Company, with a special focus on the music of John Philip Sousa.

Admission to all First State Heritage Park sites and programs is free. Free parking is available at the First State Heritage Park Welcome Center and Galleries at 121 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard North.
