The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) will hold a hearing to gather public input on proposed changes to management plans for Atlantic Striped Bass.
Draft Addendum II to Amendment 7 of the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Atlantic Striped Bass considers management measures designed to support stock rebuilding by reducing fishing mortality in 2024. It builds on emergency action taken in 2023 to reduce mortality.
For the recreational fishery, the draft addendum proposes bag and size limit options including options with different limits for the for-hire modes. For the commercial fishery, it proposes a quota reduction option. The draft addendum also proposes other measures to reduce mortality.
The hearing in Dover is one of a series of ASMFC hearings in Atlantic coastal states from Maine to Virginia. It will be a hybrid meeting with both an in-person option and a virtual option.
