The Importance of Composting

Compost bins provide homeowners important organic assistance in lawn-care and gardening. They can help turn food scraps and yard waste into a nutrient-rich soil amendment that replaces traditional fertilizers to produce gardens with healthier plants and vegetables.

By composting yard waste and kitchen scraps, homeowners can reduce the amount of waste they are sending to the landfill while producing food for their yards and gardens that is as good as any soil conditioner money can buy.

Compost contains nutrients and trace elements that are essential to plant growth. And it releases these substances slowly, over time, so that they are available to plants throughout the growing season. Compost also adds beneficial organisms to the soil and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers and mulches.
